BÉLANGER, Jean

Jean Bélanger was born on April 23, 1959 in Earlton, Ontario.

Eighth in a family of nine children, Jean is the one who was most directly influenced by the artistic beginnings of his mother, Rose-Aimée Bélanger. In fact, his first contacts with art, he owes them to his mother who gives him several lessons.

Soon after completing his thirteenth year, he began a pottery training, specifically commercial ceramics, at Georges Brown College. Upon completion, he worked as a potter apprentice at Thistlecroft Pottery in St. Thomas, Ontario. But, wishing to make more use of his creativity, Jean quickly abandoned mass production to pursue a bachelor’s degree in visual arts followed by a master’s degree in visual arts.
