Born in Jonquière (Quebec), Gisèle Bouliane was a visual art teacher for twenty years. To improve her knowledge and explore new professionnal opportunities, she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in visual Arts from Laval university in Quebec city. In 2006, it is awarded her the second prize of the public during the exhibition of graduates.
In a contemporary spirit, her expressive and colorful style reflects the intensity of the artist and the today’s urban life. Her pictorial work uses photography, collage, technologies and painting to create a dynamic composition of bubbling lines and shapes of 21st century energy. The determinated and daring gestures, which go through the canvas or the metal, stage a theatrical act from the world of dreams.
In 1967 at the age of 9, she is already planning her artistic career. She finished her professional studies in advertising design in 1977. The Association of Quebec school executives awarded her the first prize for students and the “Journal de Québec” offered her a job as a graphic designer. In 1982, she began to study painting and began a bachelor’s degree in visual arts education in 1984. In the same year, she opened her private school that will work until 2007.
In 2005, Gisèle receives an honorable mention from the jury at the Montreal International Festival of Arts (FIMA). Invited to the International Festival of Plastic Arts of Monastir in Tunisia in the summer of 2008, she was awarded the first prize of excellence given by the tunisian Governor and in 2009, she is appointed member of the permanent jury. More recently, she participated in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts at the “Carrousel du Louvre” in Paris.

ARTISTIC APPROACH :
I think, I memorize and structure a composition that suggests a relationship between space and time. I release introverted impulses towards the outside world. The vibratory phenomenon of sounds rhythms my gestural actions in an organized and global way. The calligraphy linked to the silence of the finished work whispers my intimates relexions.
Gisèle Bouliane observes and raises awareness of the abundance of life that surrounds her, and draws inspiration from it to create a work on the same pitch; it means, an act of almost theatrical type where the imagination can set in motion the already turbulent scene. What many seem trivial for some, like graffiti on a door, may seem amazing. The complexity of the overlapping colors, the dynamism of the interwoven lines and forms evoke in her a mad desire to represent a dramatic play, a nebulous representation of the atmosphere that emerges from it. It is then that Gisèle Bouliane paints the urban life that captivates her.
