LESSARD, Claude

Born in Montreal, Canada in 1957, he lives and works in Saint-Damien, Quebec.
Self-taught painter since 1973, but full-time since 2007.
University education in environmental geology, his belonging to the earth sciences instills into him a desire to scrutinize the world back to its roots. So guided and compelled by a pictorial language of his own, he is completely and utterly committed to painting and sculpting.
He participated in several solo and group exhibitions in Montreal and throughout Quebec.
Lessard has been working with recycled and natural materials, such as stone, minerals and crystals, since 1973. In 2008 he founded “Unis Vert l’Art”, a cultural and ecological organization that organizes eco- artistic projects.
In 2011, U.V.A. was commissioned by the prestigious Château Frontenac, to recover his former copper roof and organize the exhibition “Château Allant Vert” with more than 30 professional artists, which took place in 2012. Since then he transmutes this heritage copper into works of art surrounded by telluric energy.
It is also this copper that inspired Lessard to produce and edit the sumptuous art book by Gilles Vigneault “Le Conte du Château de Bic », limited edition, made of copper and stones .
His works are part of several private and corporate collections in Canada, France and the United States.
